P1000550

In January 2009 CMEC welcomed a delegation of Iranian parliamentarians to the UK. The group was lead by Dr Hossein Nejabat, Chairman of the British Iran Friendship Group in the Majlis, and included five other members of the group.

Their five-day visit included a meeting with Bill Rammel, Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, and a meeting with the groups’ British counterpart, the Iran All-Party Parliamentary Group chaired by Conservative MP, Ben Wallace.  Further meetings were arranged with Mike Gapes MP, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee and with Shadow Minister for National Security Baroness Neville-Jones and Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister, David Lidington MP.

CMEC hosted a dinner for the delegation enabling Parliamentarians from both countries to engage openly. The discussions covered the situation in Gaza, the stability of Iraq, drug interdiction in Afghanistan, the nuclear issue and the new US administration under Obama.
