In late February 2011, a delegation led by CMEC’s president, The Hon Nicholas Soames MP, visited Syria for a variety of meetings with representatives from the Syrian government, private sector and civil society.
The delegation facilitated a wide-ranging and often critical dialogue that covered all bilateral issues, including human rights in Syria, regional security and Syria’s economic challenges.
A highlight of the delegation was a visit to the British Council in Damascus where delegates were briefed on its work by Director Elizabeth White and met with Syrian English language students.
