The Economist outlines the current political discontent in Jordan. Elections are scheduled for the beginning of next year, but in the wake of King Abdullah’s disolution of Parliament earlier this month, several political groups are threatening a boycott. The King is caught between popular fears that these groups may seek to monopolise power, and needing their support if he is to adopt the sudsidy cuts demanded by the IMF.
