Does the ‘Arab Spring’ Need to be Followed by an Intellectual Revolution?

Tariq Ramadan, in the New York Times, argues that the political revolutions in the Middle East need to be supplemented by an ‘Arab Spring of ideas’ to open up economic, cultural and social change. He contends that with the Turkish AKP model being unapplicable to the rest of the Middle East, and the danger of the Afghani model repeating itself, this second revolution is essential to ensuring the development of democracy.
