A CMEC delegation led by Chairman Sir Alan Duncan MP, the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to Yemen, travelled to the 11th Manama Dialogue in Bahrain over the weekend.
The delegation met with Bahrain’s Crown Prince HRH Sheikh Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, as well as with Bahrain’s Interior Minister Lt-General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa and Ambassador to the UK HE Sheikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa. The close bilateral relationship and security cooperation between the UK and Bahrain were discussed. Crispin Blunt MP, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, also attended.
As part of the dialogue, Sir Alan took part in a panel discussion on Yemen’s future alongside Yemen’s Foreign Minister Riyadh Yassin and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif Al Zayani. Sir Alan told Al Arabiya News that the only way to solve the crisis in Yemen, “is to get an inclusive process of talks which has to include the Houthis.” “We need to try and reignite the same principle of the National Dialogue process of 2011 and look at the U.N. resolution 2216 and the handover of big weapons to avoid a free space for terrorists and extremists,” he said.
