Born in 1987 as a Palestinian refugee in Lebanon, Chaker Khazaal grew up in Bourj El Barajneh camp in Beirut before immigrating to Canada. He has travelled widely through the Middle East, reported on the refugee crisis and recently released Tale of Tala, a romantic thriller novel touching on on the world of displacement — war, human trafficking, terrorism, and the exploitation of the desperate. In 2015, Chaker was named Esquire Middle East's Man of the Year, and in 2016 he was ranked first by Arabian Business Magazine in the 100 Most Powerful Arabs Under 40.
During this event, Chaker will reflect on his own personal experiences as a former refugee, writer and reporter, to present attendees with a unique first-hand perspective on the current migrant crisis facing the Middle East and Europe.
This event will include a Q&A and will be chaired by Ayman Jomaa
