An Emerging Philanthropic Superpower? Kuwaiti humanitarian efforts in Syria and beyond

This publication examines Kuwait’s efforts to establish itself as a world leader in humanitarian assistance.

The author, Timothy Stafford, shows how Kuwait, under the leadership of its Emir HH the Amir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has proved itself a global leader in humanitarian aid.

Timothy reveals that Kuwait is now the third largest donor to the international effort to tackle the Syrian refugee crisis. Only the United States and United Kingdom, whose population and economies are far bigger, has given more generously.

The findings come just two weeks after the most recent Syrian pledging conference. Co-hosted by Kuwait, the country pledged an additional US$200 million in aid to help Syrian refugees over the next three years.
