The United Kingdom hosted Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa in London today, 28 April 2025, marking his first official UK visit since 2021. During this significant diplomatic meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Foreign Secretary David Lammy, both parties signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding reaffirming their commitment to a two-state solution, recognising the Palestinian Authority as the sole legitimate governing body in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and emphasising the need to reunite Gaza and the West Bank under its leadership.
The UK announced a substantial financial package of £101 million to support humanitarian relief, Palestinian economic development, and governance reforms, while emphasizing that Hamas must release all hostages and relinquish control of Gaza. Foreign Secretary Lammy reaffirmed the UK's intention to recognize a Palestinian state "at a time that has the greatest impact" on the peace process.
This diplomatic initiative forms a key component of the UK government's foreign policy approach, which prioritizes long-term peace and security in the Middle East through strengthened partnerships, while Prime Minister Mustafa outlined the Palestinian Authority's reform agenda focusing on financial sustainability, governance transparency, and improved service delivery.
