The number of people killed in twin car bombings in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, over the weekend, claimed by Al-Shabaab terrorists, has risen to 100, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced yesterday.
Two cars packed with explosives blew up minutes apart on Saturday near the busy Zobe intersection, followed by gunfire in an attack targeting Somalia's Education Ministry.
The Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, has issued a statement condemning the attack:
"I condemn in the strongest possible terms yesterday’s cowardly and horrific attack in Mogadishu. My thoughts are with the families and friends of those who were tragically killed and hurt. We continue to stand with the government and people of Somalia in their fight against terrorism. The UK condemns terrorism in all its forms."
