UK AND QATAR STRENGTHEN SECURITY AND ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP

The United Kingdom and the State of Qatar have further strengthened their longstanding strategic partnership with the signing of two new memoranda of understanding (MoUs) under the UK–Qatar Joint Security Cooperation framework, underscoring a shared commitment to enhanced security collaboration and long-term cooperation.

His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), met with the UK Secretary of State for the Home Office, The Rt Hon Shabana Mahmood, in London, where the agreements were formally signed this week. Both memoranda of understanding were signed with the British Home Office: one with the Qatari Ministry of Interior and the other with the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), aiming at strengthening cooperation in key areas, including cybersecurity and crisis management.

Security cooperation was further reinforced during a meeting between His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and the UK National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell, during which both parties focused on enhancing coordination between the two countries.

Alongside security ties, the UK and Qatar have also reaffirmed their economic commitments during the visit of UK Minister of State for Trade, Chris Bryant, who co-chaired the UK–Qatar Joint Ministerial Committee (JETCO) with Dr. Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs. The committee continues to serve as an institutional framework for strengthening cooperation across trade and investment, as well as priority sectors including clean energy, the digital economy, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and the creative industries.
