UK Minister for Development Baroness Chapman visited Lebanon last week alongside French and Qatari counterparts to reaffirm international support for the country and address the worsening humanitarian situation. During the two-day visit, Baroness Chapman met President Joseph Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri, and Minister of Social Affairs Haneen Sayed, and visited UK-funded programmes in Beirut and Saida. The ministers also met displaced families and emergency responders, underlining their support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and efforts to restore stability.
During the visit, Baroness Chapman announced a new £13 million UK humanitarian package, bringing total UK support announced since March to £43 million. The funding will provide food, healthcare, education and other essential services to people affected by the crisis and will be delivered in coordination with the Government of Lebanon and humanitarian partners. Baroness Chapman also handed over eight UK-funded ambulances to the Lebanese Red Cross, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to helping strengthen Lebanon’s resilience and support vulnerable communities.
